so i haven't blogged in a while and have been suitably scolded. oops. for now i can't say much but, "hmmm... weird quiz results."

Scroll in your toga?

just glad to see me?"
You're smooth, okay, but you also need a

i had a great time last night...

- having 200 orgasms a year can lower your physiological age by 7 years, effectively making you 7 years younger.
- 200 orgasms a year?! i'm fucking immortal!

- i used to be opposed to oral.
- yeah, i guess i was too-- WHEN I WAS FIVE!

quotes are not attributed, but i can say that the participants in above conversations were none other than myself, becca, and a certain pilot reemerging from the vast and endless middle. we ate noodles in a state, drove around georgetown, stared at airplanes landing (well, maybe not all of us...), and just had an all together raucous good time. but of course, now back to reality. and spanish.
i was just heckled by three drunk guys playing football in the quad on my way home tonight. i was watching their feeble attempts as i walked by, observing them stumble all over each other trying to catch the ball. and then the moment of death: one of them made eye contact. i quickly looked away, but sadly, it was too late. one shouted, "give her a chance!" and another chucked the football my way. i, of course, was not looking at this point, but it landed in front of me, so, being as stupid as i am, i picked it up and tossed it to the guy closest to me. quite awkwardly.

ah, thursday nights.

it suddenly occurred to me that people might think the previous post was a letter to josh lyman. it isn't. first of all, it would not sound anything like the one i just posted, and second, this blog may not be the most appropriate forum for the kind of letter i would probably end up writing. :-p
dear josh,

this... "Maybe I'm going soft or maybe I'm just losing it, but when the dawn light poured into the courtyard and this massive cloud started across the sky, I almost wept in awe," and even more so this... "Mathematically speaking, aren't you always approaching the minimum balance of $0.00?" are why you're so great.

always,
caitlin

p.s. live journal is why you're not. sorry man, i'm just not a fan. switch! :)
so i realize i just posted a lot at once, but really i've been writing things down when i've wanted to post them for the past couple days and just put them all online now. why, you may ask, would i do a thing like this? because not only am i home without constant internet access, but i am home where we have dial-up (ah, the horrors!) and phone lines are somewhat scarce (4 daughters living here, what do you expect).
last night, an unsuspecting caitlin ventured into the freezer to find a bagel. excited, but unknowing, she grabs for a bag of seemingly normal plain bagels. caitlin prepares her bagel with care: toasted to perfection, generously buttered, the bagel looked so delicious. caitlin goes in for the kill, she takes a big bight…

it turns out they make low-carb bagels. what the hell is that about!? it’s like an oxymoron in a food item. bagels are supposed to be carbs. only carbs. if you don’t want to eat carbs, don’t eat a freakin’ bagel!
it turns out i suck at cooking. my dad and i were making a dinner for my old babysitter, the Italian grandmother who used to look after me growing up, and my only job was to look after the rice. rice! the easiest food; the food i make fun of meaghan for messing up (granted not as much as tim does, but still, there’s a pact that i am an active part of). so i of course assume that we’re just winging the rice, and pour it into the water/butter mixture my dad has already prepared for me. oops, didn’t add the seasoning like the box told me. oops, didn’t check the time to see when it would be done. oh, and i offered to take over the chicken to make up for my rice-making errors, and i overcooked that. none of it tasted terrible, but still… i love food, i should be a really freakin’ good cook!
the wrapper to a pair of chopsticks i got at a local chinese restaurant in good ole berwyn, pa…

another update...

CHEERLEADING

i won’t torture anyone reading this with a full account of the cheerleading events; i’m not the kind of person who eases her own pain by inflicting it upon others. suffice it to say i came home from nyc to a whole new world. my high school was hosting the league championships for competitive cheerleading this year. why would i have any interest in attending such an event? you may ask. because my sister, only three years my junior, is a competitive cheerleader. people line up hours before the competition starts. my sister had to sneak us in the back door so we could save ourselves seats. volunteers were stationed all over the school to be sure we weren’t trying to catch a glimpse of another school’s routine, because that would be a huge violation of competition rules. i wondered to my father at how i was able to enter without any makeup or ribbons.

the girls actually did very well, and i will admit the athleticism of tumbling and lifting people (despite the fact that many of these women appeared to be as breakable as toothpicks), but i have to say the obsession with hair, makeup, and, most of all, pep alludes me. but anyway, the event did not end with the award ceremony at 4 o’clock. oh no, i had to go to the reception after. with a salad. because my father was taking my mother to the airport. great. my mom’s on her way to florida for a nursing conference, and i, the one who’s never full, am on my way to play susie high school and toss a salad at what might as well be an anorexic’s convention. thankfully, people ate, although it certainly was not easy to fake socializing at an event centered around a world i had hoped to leave behind in my move to college.

in the end, i survived, i smiled and shook hands, i ate pasta on a white main line carpet without spilling or looking like a total glutton while watching guys i graduated with flirt with (even leer at) girls younger than my sister and pretended that there was no better way i’d rather spend my first sunday evening on spring break. overall, i’m quite proud of myself.

okay, a few updates are necessary, but i’m going to do these one at a time so that it doesn’t seem quite so much like i’m filling this blog with boring, self-absorbed event descriptions. please skip if you so desire, particularly if you don’t care for a play by play of how i spend spring break or if you were there for all of it ;).

NEW YORK CITY

… was amazing. every time i go to new york, i have such a great time visiting, and am reminded of how i should never live there. i will forever be a tourist in that city, and will always have a good time doing so. this visit was no exception.

the chambers took a train to the city on thursday. despite the fact that we flew last year and it took a long time, it was a most enjoyable experience. one of the conductors directed us to the last car because we were a group and wanted to sit together, so we were able to sit in the comfort of business class for the whole 3 hr 15 min ride to nyc. what was even better was the number of other people in our car: an average of about 3 the whole trip up. some amusing quotes and moments resulted, but i’ll spare you all since the only readers who really care were present.

singing at the plaza was great as always (and by always, i mean last year). we were fed good food, and this year were seated in a room with a quite intriguing painting… check it out and let me know what you think. is it actually possible that the central woman’s body (particularly her breastal area) would fit into the dress in that manner (in other words, doesn’t it seem like something’s missing?), and do you think an appropriate caption would be “stop playing your flute and come closer to my bosom”? well, whatever you decide, it was the subject of much deliberation that evening.

thursday night made for some good times in the alto room. though we didn’t have a big enough bathroom for a flip cup tournament this year, i feel reasonably certain that the altos would have defended their role as chambers flip cup champs. a few members, who will remain nameless, got a wee bit drunk, a few left early to study (so sorry for you guys!), and many played flip cup (it’s always a necessary way to get to know the new chambers) and went to an overpriced diner. most people went to bed after that, but tim, amy, and i “stayed up” to watch west wing (“celestial navigation” episode to be exact) on dvd. and by “stayed up”, i mean fell asleep on my bed together after about 10 minutes.

friday was a bit of a stop and go day… amy and i had to wake up at 11 to check out of our room before noon, no easy feat considering we had gone to bed somewhere around 5:30 the night (morning) before. we then moved into tim and jeff’s room, which jeff had left that morning and collapsed in jeff’s empty bed. there we stayed for several hours, half sleeping, half just lounging around and talking. by the time we finally woke up, showered, and got on the street, it was probably about 3.

a quick stop at tkts produced 3 tickets to rent for dominic, tim, and myself. pat and amy had ordered tickets to gypsy the night before. which meant we all had a show to see at 8 friday night. and what a show it was! i am so happy to have finally seen rent… it was AMAZING. but i could give a whole entry to the show, and this is already a very long one as it is, so i won’t gush about it too much. suffice it to say i was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

we stayed up late that night as well… taking amy to her train at 3 am so she could make it to dc in time to hop in a car and drive to florida at 7 am on saturday. props amy. and of course we had to wake up early again the next day to check out. but it was totally worth it. i mean, if you were in new york, wouldn’t you spend as much time conscious as you could? well, i have no regrets… the whole trip was amazing.

there were only a few minor crises, involving train tickets mysteriously ending up in the wrong pocket of my purse, not getting enough food fast enough, and misunderstanding train times, but really, why dwell on a few mishaps… new york was great. another chambers event ends well and with great memories! thanks guys!

and sorry for writing so freaking much!

Sunday, March 07, 2004

wow, i just got caught up on a lot of blog reading and e-mails that have been missed over the past several days. (yes, these are very important activities, much more so than studying for my econ midterm.) reasons i have been behind (and, incidentally, things to blog about): nyc w/chambers, being back home, and a cheerleading competition. i would update now, but i really need a nap before facing (guess what!?)... a cheerleading party. trust me, explanations, recounting of events, and quite possibly complaints will follow shortly.

You're Watership Down!

by Richard Adams

Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd
be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

okay, so not as good as "It's time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in ferries," or "Please stay away from children," but what can you do?

see meaghan's blog for a great account of the birthday cake adventure.
it has been brought to my attention that i have never posted about the wonder that is josh lyman. so i must recommend to all that take a closer look at the man behind the bartlet white house's deputy chief of staff. if you're looking for a good starting point, i highly recommend "the crackpots and these women". it's a very good episode and a very good look at josh. all obsessiveness aside, it's a great show as well. ;)
wow, it's been a busy week, the highlight of which was...

MY BIRTHDAY

it was possibly the best birthday ever. i have now entered the 3rd decade, the land of the 20's. it feels good

i had to wake up absurdly early on tuesday (and by early, i mean 9 am) to finish a philosophy paper on plato. my roommates also woke up early so they could give me my presents...gummy butts (you eat them like gummy bears!) and (wait for it...) a vibrator. yep, my roommates are hilarious :)

i had two classes on my birthday, not too bad really. and after they were over i just relaxed and read the economist. no work for me. it was so blissful.

have you noticed just how much a package can brighten up your day? my parents sent me some spectacular audrey-related gifts and two black pens. they know me so well.

i unfortunatley had to go to work, but even that wasn't too bad. i was able to use my brilliant spanish speaking abilities to get a puerta rican woman to pledge money to georgetown. ah the life of a phone whore-- i mean telemarketer.

and after work came the deal breaker...a cake! but not just any cake, an exact replica of the one that was stolen from me! the only difference was that this one was a yellow cake with chocolate icing (because i prefer yellow to chocolate, even though meaghan and tim, the master chefs, would disagree) and the top was decorated with the useful message: DON'T STEAL ME. perfect. the whole evening ended with video games.

and the birthday didn't even end there. the next night, i got to watch some classic west wing with paul, joe, and sam as a little after birthday treat. seriously, could my birthday have gone any better this year? (yes, i'm channeling chandler...)

thanks to everyone for making it so amazing, and here's to a great year! (raises imaginary glass) :)

themccaitlin: i think the best part of birthdays is getting in touch with all your friends. so many people that i haven't talked to in a while have im-ed/e-mailed me... it reminds you of the people who are important to you, and also makes you feel like you're important to other people :)
themccaitlin: sorry, moment of cheesiness
cloud9847: i totally agree about birthdays!
cloud9847: as jess told me on mine.. it's such a "gee, i have friends" moment

jess is totally right. the great part about birthdays in college is remembering your friends from home and realizing that there are people who care about you here. even after freshman year. thanks everyone! :)
not only is the idea of a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage disgusting, but the fact that there are enough closed-minded, ignorant fools in this country for bush's backing of such an amendment to "bolster his support among conservatives" is troublingly indicative of the sorry state of our nation.

Monday, February 23, 2004

working on my four page philosophy paper (due tomorrow), i told my roommate, "i have half a page!" lauren responded, "great job! at 6:45? that's early for you!!"

and she was totally serious. 0.5 down, 3.5 to go. go me :)
i just realized after the previous post that having a quote-of-the-day section means that embarassing quotes from friends will be removed after a day. such quotes will need to be retired into a post so they can live on forevery :-D. on that note, here i post...

"i can't do anything in the kitchen! i can't do anything at all! i can't even throw things out! [pause] i never would have done that with office supplies!" -meaghan, after tossing her plate towards the trash can, causing everything on it to fly into the air
