okay, a few updates are necessary, but i’m going to do these one at a time so that it doesn’t seem quite so much like i’m filling this blog with boring, self-absorbed event descriptions. please skip if you so desire, particularly if you don’t care for a play by play of how i spend spring break or if you were there for all of it ;).

NEW YORK CITY

… was amazing. every time i go to new york, i have such a great time visiting, and am reminded of how i should never live there. i will forever be a tourist in that city, and will always have a good time doing so. this visit was no exception.

the chambers took a train to the city on thursday. despite the fact that we flew last year and it took a long time, it was a most enjoyable experience. one of the conductors directed us to the last car because we were a group and wanted to sit together, so we were able to sit in the comfort of business class for the whole 3 hr 15 min ride to nyc. what was even better was the number of other people in our car: an average of about 3 the whole trip up. some amusing quotes and moments resulted, but i’ll spare you all since the only readers who really care were present.

singing at the plaza was great as always (and by always, i mean last year). we were fed good food, and this year were seated in a room with a quite intriguing painting… check it out and let me know what you think. is it actually possible that the central woman’s body (particularly her breastal area) would fit into the dress in that manner (in other words, doesn’t it seem like something’s missing?), and do you think an appropriate caption would be “stop playing your flute and come closer to my bosom”? well, whatever you decide, it was the subject of much deliberation that evening.

thursday night made for some good times in the alto room. though we didn’t have a big enough bathroom for a flip cup tournament this year, i feel reasonably certain that the altos would have defended their role as chambers flip cup champs. a few members, who will remain nameless, got a wee bit drunk, a few left early to study (so sorry for you guys!), and many played flip cup (it’s always a necessary way to get to know the new chambers) and went to an overpriced diner. most people went to bed after that, but tim, amy, and i “stayed up” to watch west wing (“celestial navigation” episode to be exact) on dvd. and by “stayed up”, i mean fell asleep on my bed together after about 10 minutes.

friday was a bit of a stop and go day… amy and i had to wake up at 11 to check out of our room before noon, no easy feat considering we had gone to bed somewhere around 5:30 the night (morning) before. we then moved into tim and jeff’s room, which jeff had left that morning and collapsed in jeff’s empty bed. there we stayed for several hours, half sleeping, half just lounging around and talking. by the time we finally woke up, showered, and got on the street, it was probably about 3.

a quick stop at tkts produced 3 tickets to rent for dominic, tim, and myself. pat and amy had ordered tickets to gypsy the night before. which meant we all had a show to see at 8 friday night. and what a show it was! i am so happy to have finally seen rent… it was AMAZING. but i could give a whole entry to the show, and this is already a very long one as it is, so i won’t gush about it too much. suffice it to say i was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

we stayed up late that night as well… taking amy to her train at 3 am so she could make it to dc in time to hop in a car and drive to florida at 7 am on saturday. props amy. and of course we had to wake up early again the next day to check out. but it was totally worth it. i mean, if you were in new york, wouldn’t you spend as much time conscious as you could? well, i have no regrets… the whole trip was amazing.

there were only a few minor crises, involving train tickets mysteriously ending up in the wrong pocket of my purse, not getting enough food fast enough, and misunderstanding train times, but really, why dwell on a few mishaps… new york was great. another chambers event ends well and with great memories! thanks guys!

and sorry for writing so freaking much!
